Welcome to Romania – some information you may be unaware of.

With an area of 92,043 square miles (238,391 square kilometer), Romania is the largest country in Southeastern Europe. It is roughly the same size as the United Kingdom and slightly smaller than the U.S. state of Oregon.

The Carpathian Mountains are home to one of the largest undisturbed forests in Europe.
400 unique species of mammals, including the Carpathian chamois, call the Carpathian Mountains home. Some 1,350 floral species have been recorded in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains, including the yellow poppy, Transylvanian columbine, saxifrage and edelweiss.

The Walks take place in 3 main different National Parks in Romania.

Regions and places you will visit on this Romania self guided walk

Piatra Craiului National Park – with its narrow and saw-like ridge the mountains are considered to be one of the most beautiful in Carpathian mountains range

Bucegi Natural Park is Romania’s best-kept secret, rivalling Slovakia’s Tatra Mountains and the Alps when it comes to trekking. Their many glaciers, canyons, caves and lakes offer a wealth of natural beauty, history and adventure.

Brasov – Fringed by the peaks of the Southern Carpathian Mountains and resplendent with gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture, as well as a wealth of historical attractions, Brasov is one of the most visited places in Romania. Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 on an ancient Dacian site and settled by the Saxons as one of the seven walled citadels, Brasov exudes a distinct medieval ambiance and has been used as backdrop in many recent period films.

Stroll around the old Town Hall Square (Piata Sfatului) where you can admire colorfully painted and ornately trimmed baroque structures. Take a peek inside the Black Church (Biserica Neagra), the largest gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul. The interior is impressive and well-kept and houses one of the largest organs in Eastern Europe.

Bran Castle is no doubt one of the milestones when traveling in Transylvania. Towers, narrow corridors, hidden premises – the castle offers many interesting facts and stories, mysterious enough to incite the legend lovers.

Fantastic views of Wicklow Mtns on horesback

Linda, our driver & guide, was great! Very friendly and shared lots of fun info on the ride throughout. Ella and Joe at the stables were really helpful and patient getting us all setup, but once we started the views were just stunning! Back in the van, the tour through the mountains offered spectacular views with several photo stops before reaching Glendalough. The town and 2 lakes didn’t disappoint either! Highly recommend! Fascinating and enjoyable

This was a great trip. Newgrange and Knowth are fascinating Neolithic sites and the Boyne Valley is steeped in history. The driver and tour guide Matt is funny, informative, a master story teller and a skilful guide. The whole trip was enjoyable and went off like clockwork.

    An Amazing Excursion

Review of Dublin to Newgrange, Monasterboice Small Group Guided Tours. This excursion was amazing. Standing in a structure at Newgrange 5,000 years old was surreal. All three stops were so beautiful and interesting. Our guide, Matt, was so knowledgeable, funny, and a safe driver. Listening to Irish music on the way back to Dublin was a nice touch. Don't pass this excursion up.
